FINAL PROJECT: STOP MOTION/ VISUAL EFFECTS

INSTRUCTIONS

STOP MOTION

Fig 1.2 Stop Motion Brief, Week 10, PDF (31/10/22)

  • shoot in 4k-6k (largest resolution)
  • take images, not videos
  • change the aspect ratio from 3:2
  • all full body shots/ wide shots, no close-up because the puppet is already very small
  • delete the unwanted images right away because editing the stop motion is going to be a pain in the ass (if you do this, the files will be renamed in chronological order so it's very easy to compile)
  • 30 seconds video

VISUAL EFFECTS

Fig 1.3 Visual Effects Brief, Week 10, PDF (31/10/22)

    • Find a YouTube Tutorial that already shows you how to do the visual effects so that you don't have a lot of workload.

                    BUILDING THE SET

I followed a YouTube Tutorial as well as a few images in order to build a simple yet effective set.

                    ATTEMPT 2

I duplicated the last scene, each having increased its scale for impact. I also added in a zooming-in effect to create more of a cinematic feel.

Because of one image that was not consistent, I cropped the rest of the footage after that so that it was not that obvious to the viewer.

I added the dialogue audio clips after recording them on my phone using the lavalier microphone.

Bringing the cropped dialogue into Adobe Audition to make changes to the voice.

I added all the necessary clips into a multitrack format.

I played with stretch and pitch to alter my recorded voice into the character's voice.

                    FEEDBACKS

                    WEEK 11 - SKETCHES

                    General Feedback

                    •  think 15 is way too many shots though. act 1 can be done with 2 shots, act 2 3, act 3 maybe 4 or less?

                    REFLECTIONS

The final project was by far, the best assignment out of all the given ones as I am proud of myself that I even managed to create a LEGO Stop Motion, knowing how rigid the figurines are. Also, I learned a lot about the importance of camera angles to give interest in the film if there is only one type of angle, it would be so boring to watch. Lighting also plays a crucial role in setting the mood of the scene hence, for my final project, I used two sets of lights which are my table lamp and my dad's headlamp. I came to admire the people that constantly pump out stop motion videos as it is definitely a lot of work and time needed to accomplish such smooth and interesting storylines.
