SKETCHES
After doing an adequate amount of research on photo manipulation, I began sketching out a few ideas that I had in mind.

Fig 1.3.3 Sketch 1 & 2, Week 6 (5/5/22)

Sketch 1 (LEFT)- Fish biscuits, or commonly known as 'Goldfish' would be swimming in a sink filled with three-quarters of water.

Sketch 2 (RIGHT)- Since mandarin oranges do look similar to garlic cloves, I thought that they could be photoshopped into a head of garlic.

Fig 1.3.4 Sketch 3 & 4, Week 6 (5/5/22)

Sketch 3 (LEFT)- While I was observing my fingerprints, I noticed that the lines form a type of arch that quite resemble a shoreline from an aerial view. Hence, an idea was formed.

Sketch 4 (RIGHT)- There is this stray dog that roams around my street every day and after some time, he has become my occasional companion. I noticed that his back leg mirrors the shape of a chicken thigh so it was a good chance to use the concept for this task.

Fig 1.3.5 Sketch 5 & 6, Week 6 (5/5/22)

Sketch 5 (LEFT)- I noticed that the top of my skincare dropper and the shape of my cactus was very similar.

Sketch 6 (RIGHT)- Same goes with this idea where the shape of each individual Cheetos and my fingers coincide with each other.

Fig 1.3.6 Sketch 7 & 8, Week 6 (5/5/22)

Sketch 7 (LEFT)- I have this fine-tooth comb lying around in my room and I thought all the teeth could be replaced with sewing needles I had.

Sketch 8 (RIGHT)- The stone hand grinder had an unwavering resemblance to a toilet bowl.

FEEDBACK
When Mr. Martin prefers Sketch 3 which is the juxtaposition of the shoreline and the arch fingerprint.

After his feedback, I went to take a picture of my fingerprint as a form of testing. I found out that it was actually very difficult to take a micro close-up shot of prints no matter the lighting. Hence, unfortunately, I had to give up that idea and proceeded to choose the others instead which would be Sketch 5, 6 & 7.

I tried creating a vertical version of this idea and began doing the same as I did in Fig 1.6.4.

SKETCH 7- COMB & PLANT

Halfway completing this particular combination, I lost hope in the final outcome because the plant was too difficult to mask and very time-consuming as well. Not only that, I was clueless about the composition style so I scratched this idea.

After the 3 attempts, I suddenly came across this chickpea snack in the pantry of my house. The first thought that came to my mind was that it looked very similar to buttocks. Hence, why not try to photo manipulate a chickpea wearing pants?

FEEDBACK
During this week's class, Mr. Martin suggested that I take photos of a few chickpeas instead of a container. He also advised having some of them wear shorts while some are left bare.

I tried the method that Mr. Martin had suggested but I was not satisfied with the outcome.

WEEK 10

ATTEMPT 2- CHICKPEAS & BUTT

I had an idea to photoshop the chickpea as someone's actual butt but this assignment requires us to take our own photographs instead of taking them from the internet. So, I just took a photo of myself lying down and used that as one of my pictures.

Below are screenshots of my experimentation with layout design to see what works best for the final outcome.

REFINED VERSION OF ATTEMPT 2- CHICKPEAS & BUTT

I retook the photos for this idea to obtain a different angle from the previous images.

For Fig 2.2.6, I added a solid peach color layer on top of the chickpea and blended it with soft light so that it could match the color of my skin tone.

REFLECTIONS

I experienced difficulty in the initial part of the assignment because I had all these cool ideas in my head but when I tried photo manipulating in Photoshop, the design turned out very sloppy. Later, I started to doubt whether I lacked the skills or if the idea wasn't that great. What I took away from this task was that there will always be a very high chance the first attempt would look hideous. Therefore, we should not let that get in the way of us starting with the fear of making it look ugly. By starting, we are already on our way to achieving the final outcome. At the end of the day, baby steps are better than no steps.
