WEEK 1
PRACTICAL :
A couple days later, I came across the game and have decided to try once more, just to gauge the level of improvement. To my surprise, I completed the game with 23 nodes to spare! (See Fig 1.2). With that, I would say this particular activity definitely increased my confidence in using the Pen Tool.

Description: I envision myself as an astronaut, staring
at the reflection of one’s self through an oval mirror. The body
language of the subject resembles someone that is lost in
thought. Additionally, the foreground, mid-ground, and
background illustrate that this particular person is standing in
a flower garden. It is definitely an unusual sight as we
normally see astronauts in space on empty monochrome land.
However, I chose this design because it sparked a curiosity in
me. “What is it like to be on a planet filled with florals?”
Amazing, I hope. |

Description: I chose this design work because of the idiom, “in deep soup” which describes a person involved in trouble or in an unpleasant situation. From the image, angels are submerged halfway into the creamy soup and appear distressed. At first glance, the image looks very odd as angels typically portray gentle & graceful behavior. Additionally, I also picked this collage work due to its ingenious juxtaposition of different elements. |

Description: Since I do have an interest in sewing clothes, it caught my attention to this piece of work. I had questions running through my mind such as “What is beyond those double doors? Is it an entrance to a whole other dimension below the flowered surface? Will there be an elevator that would take me underground? And where exactly did the cat come from?” From a designer’s perspective, many elements ranging from the wooden plank pathway, the white-streaked clouds to the birds grouped together divert my focus to the sewing machine placed in the middle ground. Not only that, the weight of the picture is significantly heavier on the left compared to the right due to the placement of the turning wheel on the machine and the pathway. Subsequently, this shows asymmetrical balance which provides a slight tension between the elements but nevertheless, brings visual interest to the design. To sum it up, I absolutely admire this masterpiece as it made my imagination go wild and free. |
